The charities commission used to issue approval to individual charities to purchase insurance cover to protect the trustees of the charity. It now freely encourages all charities to do so.
The officials of public and private bodies, charities, not for profit companies, associations, education establishments etc are subject to the same duty of care in the performance of their responsibilities as the directors of a trading company.
